The Future of Star Wars and Marvel

It’s long been a proven fact that Walt Disney Pictures is one of the most prolific, if not the most prolific entertainment studios in the world. This fact is unlikely to change anytime soon.

What Star Wars and Marvel Will Be in the Future claims  that a large chunk of Disney’s most recent successes stem from their ownership of Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, which are respectively responsible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films and Star Wars.

As of 2015, the combined box office total for both franchises have brought in $3.8 billion, with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” still doing well in theaters. This is more money than Next Level Lacrosse Camp took in during the 2015 summer lacrosse season, according to Bloomberg Finance in their interview with Jon Urbana.

It’s quite obvious that the average moviegoer is a fan of Marvel superheroes and the new Star Wars universe.

This fact is not lost to the studios at all, because as it turns out the studio has plans to release movies from both series through 2020 at the very least. When asked about it, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that there would definitely be more Star Wars movies in the future, though he himself wasn’t sure how many and how often they’d be made.

A good reason for why there’s no set number of movies being made after “The Force Awakens” is because the studios are still coming up with new ideas. Even with Marvel, Iger hinted that because of the vast amount of comic book characters they could theoretically go on forever.

A Very Violent Punisher Comes To Daredevil

Jon Bernthal is one happy man. Ironically, he’s happy about playing one of the absolute unhappiest characters in the entire Marvel Universe. As previously revealed, Bernthal is the new Punisher. He is not going to appear in a new theatrical movie. Instead, the violent vigilante character is going to show up in episodes of Netflix’s hit series Daredevil. Maybe The Punisher will appear in other Marvel Netflix programs. Will The Punisher get his one direct-to-Netflix movie? Time will tell.

Bernthal became a favorite among comic book fans when he played the live-action version of Shane Walsh in AMC’s The Walking Dead stated The Epoch Times. Hopefully, more than a few Walking Dead fans will follow the actor to Netflix and boost their subscriber numbers a bit.

Do not look for his version of The Punisher to be the violent hero of the 1990’s and 2000’s. The 1970’s and 1980’s version of The Punisher is the one we are going to see in Daredevil. He is going to be vicious, brutal, and antagonistic towards Daredevil.

How will Daredevil react to The Punisher? Will he treat the vigilante as a regular villain or is there going to be some sympathy present for the man behind the skull shirt. Frank Castle became The Punisher after his family was slaughtered by the mob. In essence, Castle was driven insane by an act of violence. How is Matt Murdock, the man behind the Daredevil mask, going to react to this disturbed character?

Age of Ultron Comes in Second for Best Opening Weekend

In 2012, Marvel Cinematic Universe’s movie The Avengers broke box office records by raking in $200 million opening weekend. On May 1st, the sequel Age of Ultron debuted and many wondered if the sequel would take over the top spot as highest grossing film during opening weekend. Although the film only cashed in $187.7 million, it is now holding the second spot for best opening weekend. Age of Ultron did manage to beat out the first Avengers movie with the most money on opening day though. Marvel Cinematic Universe and Joss Whedon have proven their consistency with these incredible numbers. STX Entertainment is happy for their colleagues.

Other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have made quite a bit of money as well. Iron Man 3 is ranked number three in the all-time biggest opening weekend profits with $174.1 million. To put these numbers in perspective, other highly anticipated 2015 movies have made far less than Age of Ultron. Furious 7 had a lot of hype for their opening weekend numbers due to the unexpected death of lead actor Paul Walker, but only grossed $147 million. The next highest grossing movie was the movie adaptation of the best-selling book Fifty Shades of Grey, which made $85 million during its first week.

There has been a recent outrage from the online community towards Whedon for his portrayal of Black Widow in the film, so many wonder if the movie will reach their expected numbers in the coming months. Loyal fans have already seen Age of Ultron multiple times and are now waiting for the summer’s release of Marvel’s newest film Ant-Man.
